About Don Coram, Co-Founder
Colorado State Senator Don Coram represents District 6 in Colorado, which sits at the very center of the Four Corners region of the United States, where six governments have jurisdictional boundaries: the states of Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico, and Utah, as well as the tribal governments of the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe and the Navajo Nation. Don serves on the Agriculture, Natural Resources and Energy Committee; the Water Resources Review Committee; and the Judiciary Committee of the Colorado Senate.
District 6 is one of the most diverse areas in the entire state of Colorado. It covers Archuleta, Dolores, La Plata, Montezuma, Montrose, Ouray, San Juan, and San Miguel counties. According to Don this district incorporates all that makes Colorado special. There is a mix of the majestic San Juan mountain range, to the incomparable high desert, to the many rivers and streams that feed the strong agricultural base in the valleys. There is mining, ranching, tourism, recreation, industry, and local businesses at all levels that support the strong economic values these communities provide.
Don was born and raised in Montrose County on a family farming and ranching operation along with his sister, Darla, and brother, Dwayne. While growing up, Don’s parents ran Stockyards in Montrose and Grand Junction. Don’s wife Dianna is a “third-generation Delta County girl.” Together they have one son, Dee, who is also their business partner. The Corams are proud to have such strong roots and a history all throughout the 6th District.
Ranching, mining, environmental reclamation, and Main Street business are prominently featured in Don’s background. Strong community participation has always been important to Don and Dianna and is apparent in their past and current involvement with organizations like the San Juan Cancer Center, the Dolphin House, Magic Circle Community Theatre, and Welcome Home Montrose.
Don has served as Director and Treasurer on the board of School District RE -1J. Don also has served as Treasurer and President of the Delta-Montrose Vocational Center and served on the Board of Directors for the Western Small Miners Association and the San Juan Regional Council of the El Pomar Foundation. Prior to being elected to the Colorado Senate, Don served as 2nd Vice-Chairman of the Montrose County Republican Central Committee and was selected by then Colorado State GOP Chairman Dick Wadhams to serve on the CRC Executive Committee.
He is a strong voice for rural Colorado, standing up for water rights, jobs, local control on education, and the Western way of life. For Don, a healthy economy and a healthy environment must go hand-in-hand. Experience, dedication, responsive representation, conservative leadership, and common sense values are what the citizens of Colorado got when they cast their vote for Don Coram.
